Thoughts from the grey men

I woke this morning and looked at the grey cold sky, I felt the chill in the air and knew it was going to snow. The state had said I have to plant two acres of potatoes this week and it is going to snow. I put my worn slippers on my feet and looked at my gray jumpsuit, it was wrinkled from sleeping in it but that was the only warmth I had. I knew the Chief would penalize me half my day’s rations for looking sloppy but I do not care right now.

I drank the last of my cold soup left from diner last night and took a sip of water from my rations. I walked out side, no need to lock the door the guards would only open it by breaking it in. They would be suspicious of a locked door.

My bicycle had a flat tire so I had to hurry to be on time for role call, the chief would not be happy if I was late again

It is not too bad at the FEMA work camp. We have our work to fill the time and a portion of the food we raise we get to keep. I wished we would have more wood for a fire some nights, at least enough for warm meal….

Is this where we are headed? A new 1984, with government controls and rationing on everything? What are WE as individuals doing to prevent this? Are we part of the 101st keyboardist? Or are we actually doing something to improve our society?

Talk of federal elections is fine and we do need to keep a careful watch on them, but what about the local government? City, County, or State? Mayors and county council members become Governors. State legislators become federal, County registrar becomes Secretary of State. Are we vetting these positions?

What are we doing to protect the future? How are we educating our kids? In my county the School board is causing trouble for the schools. We need a recall election of the school board or the children stand to lose out on several grants and federal educational loan programs. This will affect the county on jobs and education for generations. No education and the businesses will go elsewhere for building and expansion.

We can make a difference in the lives of young men and women; but we must get involved in their lives. We must put down the remote and read to a child. Spend time telling them they have a future, and help them develop themselves in to better citizens.

What about our communities? Do you have a neighborhood watch program? What about the elderly in the community, could they die and not be noticed for days? Do you have a Firearms safety training program, or a disaster recovery program for your area?

If you want a change, be the change you want in your neighborhood. United we stand, divided we become the grey men…

God Bless.

Just my thoughts for today.

  • David Silvas  I went to the way back machine and here I sit reading from nearly 10 yrs ago...

and I have to say... NO, we did NOT do enough! Sadly!

I hope this bumps to the top!

  • Just as the return of Christ is only seconds away, so is a revolution. We do not know when either will occur but both are eminent. An election by definition is a revolution though usually a peaceful one. A successful one when we have a change in leadership.

As with Christ’s return we can prepare and watch for it, keep the lamps trimmed and bright.

A neighborhood watch is a good start. A disaster recovery plan is also good for both natural disasters and man made disasters. Where I live if you said you did not have a CCW everyone would wonder what you were convicted of.

Love and trust the Lord God, learn what you can, first aid, communications, shooting, are all skills that are worthwhile in them selves, gardening and canning; food preservation. Prepare and pray that it is not needed.

    God Bless.
  • Hugh, I have a CCW and I am currently working on a Neighboorhood watch program. We read as a family every night and I go to church on Sundays. Still trying to get the daughter and wife to go with me but I am leading by example. I am a veteran and I love my country, my family and my faith. I feel we are in great danger but I am not sure what I can really do besides saving money, lowering our expenses and preparing for some really hard times (maybe even a second revolution). Do you think we could get to that point and what are you doing to fight back?
  • 'Atlas Shrugged' is on disc-- narrated by Edward Herrmann. It is an amazingly well-produced bit of work. I cannot recommend it highly enough !

  • Valk, That was my first Rand novel. You are right and I would highly recomend that one as an entry level Rand novel especialy if you have been putting off Atlas Shrugged because of its size. (I did not finish it in an hour however but in an evening)
  • Read Ayn Rand's "Anthem" -- it'll take about an hour. It's eerily similar to Hugh's post, but it has a 'happy ending-- just like we're gonna have here.

  • To us here in America your FEMA work camp story sounds too far out but history is rife with such accounts. My great grand parents escaped Russia during the revolution, but their father stayed behind becuse it took all the money he had to pay the fare of his son and daughter in law. They never saw him again but we do have letters accounting the days up to the full communist take over, we fear he was executed because of his high standing in the community and his faith in Jesus Christ. These stories are real to me, and when I read a book like We the Living by Ayn Rand I can see the suffering in my minds eye.

Statism and communism always end in suffering. Most of history tells this story. 99% of humans down thorough history have lived this hell, we the living are the exeption. If we let the fire of freedom die today billions will suffer a fate worse then death; hell on earth.
