Thoughts from the grey men part 6

I hit my ankle with a hammer and busted it up some. It sure hurt but I got in the camp hospital for a few days, now I am working as an orderly until I get better. I got some ammonia, iodine and sulfide. I hope to pick up a few tools while I am here. One of the doctors gave me a book on herbal medicine to read. It might not be state of the art but it could save a life some day. Tannin in tea leaves will stop bleeding and bring down swelling, and it seems that a little charcoal in your food will cut down on dysentery. Mint and peppermint help with gum swelling; this could be useful someday….

How often do we see movies where the bad guy inflicts an injury on themselves to show that they are a victim also, or fakes a death the “Count of Monte Cristo” to the “Art of War” with Snipes in it; enough to know that it really does work sometimes. It is used regularly in prisons to get access to supplies or equipment. Common through literature and history. It takes a strength to self inflect a wound that few really have.

What strength do we have, what sacrifice will we make; if we have never been tested to our limits we never know. The mountain climber who cut off his own arm to save his life or the Doctor who performed an appendectomy on himself. These know the limits that they can be pushed to and survive. Many have never been tested some are tested all the time, some put themselves in a position where they are forced to be tested daily.

Do you know your limits, abilities, knowledge? Take careful inventory of yourself, be honest. Find out what you know and decide what you need to learn; then learn it.

God Bless

Just my thoughts for today.

  • David Silvas  I am still praying and dragging out my old herbal and self help healing books!

  • Awsome! I will look into those. Amazon????
  • The Dangerous Book for Boys, by Conn and Hal Iggulden
The Daring Book for Girls: by Andrea J. Buchanan, Miriam Peskowitz

Get both books (don’t worry about the Boy/Girl designators both have fun information for all) and have fun with the grandkids, keep extra band aids handy. I highly recommend them for kids of all ages. They cover history. Art, literature, Games (Outdoors) science, how to train your own young MacGyvers.
  • Very nice! Survival smarts and the ability improvise will decide who lives and dies and who bounces back to prosperity. I watched my grandparents closley when I was I child because I adored them...little did I know I was learning skills that may someday be a bridge between worlds. My grandpa Laurence made McGiver look like a helpless child. Nothing was ever too broke to fix. However, today we have such a fantastic opprotunity to touch the past and future all at once. The generatoin of my grandfather learned much from the shortages of the Great Depression, WW2 and the Dust bowl. They learned much by trial and error. We do not have to do that. I am building a note book of "how too's"; how to build a still, how to build a water filter out of blue jenas and a five gallon bucket, how to build a generator, how to preserve meat and vegies, herbal remedies, nutritional values of foods, survival foods, edible incects and so on. The harder the times the more powerful knowledge is. Even if I never need to use this info it is still fun, and who knows, the little my kids allow me to pass on to them just might make a difference between life and death, living free or under a tyrant.
