I hit my ankle with a hammer and busted it up some. It sure hurt but I got in the camp hospital for a few days, now I am working as an orderly until I get better. I got some ammonia, iodine and sulfide. I hope to pick up a few tools while I am here. One of the doctors gave me a book on herbal medicine to read. It might not be state of the art but it could save a life some day. Tannin in tea leaves will stop bleeding and bring down swelling, and it seems that a little charcoal in your food will cut down on dysentery. Mint and peppermint help with gum swelling; this could be useful someday….
How often do we see movies where the bad guy inflicts an injury on themselves to show that they are a victim also, or fakes a death the “Count of Monte Cristo” to the “Art of War” with Snipes in it; enough to know that it really does work sometimes. It is used regularly in prisons to get access to supplies or equipment. Common through literature and history. It takes a strength to self inflect a wound that few really have.
What strength do we have, what sacrifice will we make; if we have never been tested to our limits we never know. The mountain climber who cut off his own arm to save his life or the Doctor who performed an appendectomy on himself. These know the limits that they can be pushed to and survive. Many have never been tested some are tested all the time, some put themselves in a position where they are forced to be tested daily.
Do you know your limits, abilities, knowledge? Take careful inventory of yourself, be honest. Find out what you know and decide what you need to learn; then learn it.
Just my thoughts for today.
